Odin Ensemble was created in 2021 to explore the sound world of the early recording era. Based in Gothenburg, Sweden, it is a miniature orchestra that plays on instruments from the start of the 20th Century, including using gut strings. The approach is informed by listening to early recordings, rather than by adapting baroque and classical practice to later repertoire. In this way Odin stands apart both from specialist early music groups and modern symphony orchestras.

Partly inspired by Schoenberg's Society for Private Musical Performances (Vienna 1918-1921), Odin performs arrangements of larger orchestral works in a chamber music setting. This provides a fresh perspective for audiences, making it easier to get to grips with these pieces and the sound world of the early 20th Century. It also makes it possible to present a wide variety of music in smaller venues.
